Charles Best was educated at St. Paul’s School (‘94) in New Hampshire and Yale (‘98). He earned a fundraising management certificate from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Charles began DonorsChoose.org in 2000 while he was teaching social studies at Wing’s Academy in the Bronx. While talking to colleagues, he realized that teachers were spending their own money on supplies needed for their classrooms. He wanted to change that culture. Charles has stated that he is most proud of his former students who have now graduated. He attributes his success to his colleagues and his father. Charles is married to Bridget Janario, and they have two children.
